Large-paper illustrated edition hard back binding in publisher’s original half vellum – grey paper sides – gilt title lettering to the spine – top edge gilt – other edges uncut. Number 17 of 75 Limited Edition copies for sale in England and the United States, containing the original Signed lithograph, which has been taken off the stone after printing. Printed pages of text with 37 tipped in colour plates with lettered paper guards and 36 monochrome illustrations by Brangwyn. Condition: Wear to outer boards – dent to top edge of spine – foxing to endpapers front and back – text block firm and clean with minor age toning to uncut edges of pages – all tipped in plates present and in good condition – minor crease to corner of one (see image) – previous owners name James R Bruce-Lockhart to inner cover. (James R Bruce-Lockhart was a British diplomat, intelligence officer, author, and artist) – see all images for condition. Dimensions: 15 3/4″ high x 11 3/4″ wide x 2 1/4 thick. A good example of a scarce book by Frank Brangwyn which will be a great addition to any library.

Its print-run is limited to 277 copies, for the height of Pilsdon Pen – the high ground on which our journey began – is 277 metres above sea-level. Please note the single, signed, and numbered print was not with this book setwhen I bought it, so the previous owner must have retained it. Number 67 of 750 numbered copies. A very good copy of the first combined edition of Walter’s Crane’s three children’s books, with a new Preface. 30 x 31 cm, 192 pages. Copiously illustrated and decorated in colour by Walter Crane and printed by Edmund Evans. Original vellum-backed gilt decorated brown cloth, top edge gilt. Binding is sound (hinge between endpapers open but holding), pages are clean with a very occasional light fox mark, corners are slightly bumped and vellum slightly soiled – overall a very good copy. All my books are rare, out of print or collectable books e. Modern first editions in good condition.
