Small abrasions to several pages due to former exposure to damp, slight lean to spine, top edge a little dusty and marked. Good-plus hardback in slightly rubbed and shelf-worn dust-wrapper. Signed by the author on the front end-paper. Number 14 of a deluxe edition limited to only 75 copies. Loosely laid in is an addendum on the author’s experience of the use of Coated Flexi-Link. 8vo (155 x 217mm). Colour and b/w photographs and illustrations. Fully bound in dark blue leather, spine titled in gilt. Deluxe leather-bound edition limited to only 75 copies. Pictures show the actual copy being offered for sale. Any questions please ask. Welcome to the Collector’s Edition of Barbel: Obsession. This is the leatherbound version of my amalgamated trilogy (The Ultimate Big Barbel Experience, Barbel: Mysteries, Theories & Tactical Solutions, and Barbel: The Immortal Challenge). As a valued customer, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for purchasing your copy. It is one of only 75 to be published in hardback form from a total print-run of 500 books. Each of the remaining 425 copies are softbacks. Of course, as I write this in advance of the publishing date, I can only imagine how this particular edition will look and feel. Because this is my first experience of hardback publication, I can only hope that I’ve chosen wisely from the samples I originally viewed and that I’ve heeded the advice from those in the know. In so many respects, the antisipation [sic] of the final outcome is extremely exciting – almost as much as when we’re waiting for that next rod-wrenching bite from another magnificent barbel. (Blurb from front dust-wrapper flap). Here, Steve Stayner brings to the bookshelf the material found in his first three titles (The Ultimate Big Barbel Experience, Barbel: Mysteries, Theories & Tactical Solutions, and Barbel: The Immortal Challenge), all in one cover. Even accounting for the most recent influx of barbel books by various authors and publishing houses, for many readers, Steve’s original trilogy still represents the most comprehensive, entertaining and informative works on the species written to date. And with lots of new material added to the updated and more familiar content, the author felt the new title was appropriate for a compilation, which let’s face it, evolved from his very own obsession with these truly magnificent and enigmatic creatures. Barbel: Obsession is much more than a book about barbel and how to catch them. In many ways, Steve almost turns the pastime into a science and offers readers countless hours of educational pleasure as they journey through the mine of information to be found within its pages. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned specialist barbel angler, you will not fail to gain something from it. (Publisher’s blurb on rear panel of dust-wrapper). In common with the majority of the author’s earlier books, Barbel: Obsession has thus far only been published as a limited edition and has since become sought after and quite hard to find. The 2005 first and only edition was limited to a total of 500 copies. Of those 500 copies 75 (known as the Collector’s Edition) were bound in leather and issued with a dust-wrapper. Each of these were numbered on the front flap of the dust-wrapper. The remaining 425 copies were produced as paperbacks and were not individually numbered. LIMITED EDITION HAND SIGNED. Size: 359 × 267 mm (14 1/8 × 10 1/2 in). Influential photographer Annie Leibovitz presents her remarkable portraits in this re-issue of her acclaimed and bestselling collection. With an essay by Alexandra Fuller and an afterword by Annie Leibovitz. For this collection, Leibovitz has selected the best and most representative portraits from her work between 2005 and 2016. The pictures document contemporary culture with an artist’s eye, wit, and an uncanny ability to personalize even the most recognizable and distinguished figures. Annie Leibovitz was invited to photograph Queen Elizabeth II twice, in 2007 and in 2016. She was the first American photographer to be asked by the royal family to do so, and considered it an honor. As Leibovitz wrote in her 2008 book At Work, It was ok for me to be reverent. The British are conflicted about what they think of the monarch. If a British portraitist is reverent he’s perceived to be doting. I could do something traditional. The 2007 images are reverent, but the sitting that produced them didn’t go entirely to plan. Leibovitz had wanted to shoot at Windsor Castle, with the queen on horseback. Instead she was given 25 minutes at Buckingham Palace. The queen arrived late, not in a terribly good mood, and was wearing a tiara, which wasn’t in Leibovitz’s plan (the tiara was supposed to come later in the shoot). Leibovitz asked if she could remove it so that the image would be simpler. “Less dressy” was how she put it. The queen replied. What do you think this is? Anna-Lou Leibovitz /’li? Vits; born October 2, 1949 is an American portrait photographer best known for her engaging portraits, particularly of celebrities, which often feature subjects in intimate settings and poses. Leibovitz’s Polaroid photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken five hours before Lennon’s murder, is considered one of Rolling Stone magazine’s most famous cover photographs. The Library of Congress declared her a Living Legend, and she is the first woman to have a feature exhibition at Washington’s National Portrait Gallery.
