The Complete Collection JAZZ BOOK CLUB 66 Volume Bundle 1956-1967 Rare Vintage
Offering access to low-cost authoritative literature, the Jazz Book Club was a successful and influential venture, publishing 66 subscription titles and 11 occasional volumes between 1956 and 1967. The Club was created to meet the demand for information by the rapidly growing post-war jazz audience in Britain. Extending the intellectual discourse of the 1930s, an educated, socially diverse generation coming to jazz in the 1940s and 1950s was serious about the music and earnest in their pursuit of information. Although the new fans were often fiercely partisan in their preferences, the Club believed its book choices would appeal broadly across the emerging jazz community. I have pinched the list below from wikipedia, so it wont format well but will hopefully give you an idea of the incredible range of specific subjects touched by this niche series on the Jazz Age. The Jazz Book Club (JBC) was a publishing project of Sidgwick & Jackson. Herbert Jones, the editor, and a distinguished panel, selected the works. Sixty-six issues, and various extras were published from 1956 to 1967. We Called It Music: A Generation of Jazz. I Play as I Please. Young Man with a Horn. His Eye is on the Sparrow. Hommes et problèmes du jazz. Count Basie and his Orchestra. Jazz, Hot and Hybrid. Duke Ellington: His Life and Music. Charles Wareing, George Barlick. A Handbook of Jazz. A World in a Jug. They All Played Ragtime. These Jazzmen of Our Time. Father of the Blues. Jam Session: An Anthology of Jazz. The Book of Jazz: A Guide to the Entire Field. The Sound of Surprise: 46 Pieces on Jazz. The Art of Jazz: Essays on the Nature and Development of Jazz. Jay Smith, Lenn Guttridge. The story of a jazz maverick. Jazz Era: The Forties. Death of a Music? The Decline of the European Tradition and the Rise of Jazz. Blues Fell This Morning. Dom Cerulli, Burt J. The Story of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band. The Reluctant Art: Five Studies in the Growth of Jazz. Jazz: A People’s Music. Jazz and the White Americans; The Acceptance of a New Art Form. Man Walking on Eggshells. Trumpet on the wing. The Legend of Charlie Parker. Dinosaurs in the Morning: 41 Pieces on Jazz. My Life in Jazz. Blues People: Negro Music in White America. Willie the Lion Smith. Music on my Mind. Negro Folk Music USA. Conversation with the Blues. 14 Miles on a Clear Night. The Story of Fats Waller. These are preowned vintage books out of print and rare in such numbers this was a dedicated collector. Light Surface Scratches, marks, and dust in hard to reach areas. There will be tanning to the paper from age and some foxing may be present. No Dust Covers are available. These have been in storage so externally got a little bit grubby. They all have had a light dusting to remove anything loose. Ie you paid immediately. I post within 24 hours of getting the order, I have to rely on collections due to being in a rather rural location so I have to have recevied the order by 22:00 if you want it dispatched the next day. So ensuring you are happy with the condition on the surface at least. Photos are of the exact item you will be sent. To reiterate take your time to look over all the multi angle and close up photos provided as they will highlight the cosmetic appearance and must be considered when evaluating condition. When you get your item and are pleased with it, then your feedback is always genuinely appreciated by me , I love to know an item I had has made someone else happy, its also still very useful to new prospective buyers who are trying to access a sellers suitability.
