This is a well preserved and very rare and folio-sized Geneva Holy Bible, printed by the renowned Robert Barker, in London in 1612. The Bible is RED-RULED (by hand) throughout! This Geneva Bible or also called Breeches Bible is COMPLETE with all title pages, the famous extensive commentaries by the early reformers, and a complete series of the sought-after Geneva engravings with the additional double page map of Canaan (as part of the Genealogies) and also the large full-page (very rare) Genesis Garden of Eden engraving. This Bible contains SIX sections bound together: the Common Book of Prayer (lacking title plus few first pages, starts with the morning prayers), the complete Speed’s Genealogies plus double page map (with title and all 34 pages of engravings), the complete Bible (Old and New Testament, with all titles and prelims etc), the Apocrypha, the Concordances (the two tables) and the Whole Book of Psalms 1612, Psalter, with musical bars, complete including even the index page – very rare! Including a total of FOUR title pages: the title to The Genealogies recorded in the Sacred Scriptures… S”, the general title to the Bible “The Bible, That is, the Holy Scriptures contained in the Old and New Teftament… Undated as issued and the title pages to the New Testament translated out of the Greeke by Theod. ” and the Psalter “the Whole Booke of Psalmes… All sections (except the Prayer Book) are complete in every aspect, including titles, prelims, illustrations, and colophons. Next to the first page of Genesis is a full page engraving of the Garden of Eden with the Tree of Life. Various smaller engravings (the complete famous Geneva set of illustrations and maps) throughout. Beautifully decorated chapter initials (very large initials for the first chapter of every book). This folio sized Geneva Bible is in an overall VERY GOOD and DAILY USABLE condition. Complete Bible text with all title pages and prelims. Some repairs/small damages on the first pages of the Prayer Book. The Bible is professionally rebound in contemporary style brown blind stamped covers and can be used daily without concerns. The (cotton based) paper is crisp, clean, and shows minor aging. Few genealogy notes from the previous owners. Some occasional light discoloring. Some tears in the double page map. Looks like this Bible has NEVER been trimmed and has full and wide margins. All edges have faded gold gilt for protection. A historical Geneva illustrated folio Bible! Rare antique edition small book. THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER. And Administration of The Sacraments, and other Rites and Ceremonies of The Church. According to the use of The Church of England. Together with the Psalter or Psalms of David, pointed as they are to be sung or said in Churches. And the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining, and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. Printed by William Collins, Sons, & Company. There is no printed published year on the title page, however the the date 1855 is the start year from The Table of the Moveable Feasts for Thirty-Four Years, according to the foregoing Calendar. This indicates a print year of 1854/55. The book is small, measuring just 6.5cm x 9.5cm. Please look at all the photos for the best understanding of the condition and contents. This book has signs of age, use and wear. The unusual copper front and back board has a intricate design, boards are clasped with a brass hinged latch. The clasp remains tight and in full working order. The spine is tan leather, some wear to the top and bottom edge, and aged discolouration. Text block remains tight and bound, some noticeable foxing/spotting of the pages from age, all text fully legible. Full page inscription on the first front blank end paper. The red under gold gilded page edges are in good condition, some wear and scratches from use. Overall a very rare antique edition, highly unusual to have copper boards, very much indicative of an early Arts and Crafts movement style.
