Cormac McCarthy signed 1st The Passenger & Stella Maris US slipcased final books

A lovely unread copy of this signed slipcased 1st edition set of the US release of the final 2 published books from American author, playwright and screenwriter Cormac McCarthy, who died on 13 June 2023 aged 89. McCarthy was a hugely influential author, considered by many to be one of the greatest writers of the past 60 years. He won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007 for’ The Road’ and had long been mooted as a serious candidate to be Nobel Laureate. A number of his books have been adapted into films, the most successful being the Coen Brothers’ 2007 adaptation of’ No Country for Old Men’, which won 4 Academy Awards. The Passenger’ published by Alfred A Knopf in New York on 6 December 2022 in this special edition (the same day as the signed UK special edition was released), 1st edition, large modern hardback, [x] + 385 pages. Stella Maris’ published by Alfred A Knopf in New York on 6 December 2022 in this special edition (the same day as the signed UK special edition was released) , 1st edition, large modern hardback, [iv] + 193 pages. Cormac McCarthy has hand signed each volume to the first blank endpaper. In very fine unread condition, deckled edge finish to the fore-edge of each book. Housed in a slipcase which covers about 3/4 of the length of the book, which was a slightly unusual design. Some slight production/storage wear at the spine ends, which is very common with all of the copies of this US set I have seen and handled, given they are exposed out of the slipcase. The slipcase is still covered in the original publisher sellophane – the books have only been removed by the original dealer to check that both were signed (a prudent check given that there is no noticeable difference in design between the signed & unsigned copies of this US set) and by myself to take these photos. I will also include (not photograhed) a promotional bookmark for the UK release of these books with this copy. A highly collectable signed set of the US 1st editions of these final 2 books from Cormac McCarthy. This set weighs 1.4kg before being securely packed. Illustrated, Limited Edition, Original Binding, Publishers’ Original Binding, Signed. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed. This book weighs 0.75 KG when packed. A limited de luxe edition, being number 19 out of 500 copies. Signed by both the author and the artist to the half title. With a monochrome engraved etching by the renowned artist Michael Ayrton, created for this limited edition. A limited edition of Muriel Spark’s sinister and comedic gothic novel set in a mansion, where a Baron, Baroness and their secretary are hidden behind the locked doors of the library. In the publisher’s original quarter cloth. Externally excellent with only a very minor closed tear to the paper to the front board, and sunning to the front. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Fine – Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under’condition. Good Only – Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. We only sell books in this condition where their rarity or value makes them. Attractive none the less. Major defects will be described. Please ask for details and conditions. The Testaments by Margaret Atwood deluxe limited signed edition. This is NUMBER 59 of only 100 produced. The deluxe edition was issued in conjunction with the trade edition to mark the landmark publishing of the sequel to’The Handmaid’s Tale’. Housed in a clam shell-style box, this unique version is clothbound with debossed text on the front. The inside of the box sees hand-marbled paper created by artist Jemma Lewis, which was produced in batches of just 25 for each design. The die cut tipped-in page on the box mirrors the design on the clothbound back cover, and to complete the look, the printed ends and swiss binding seamlessly link to compliment the overall look. Please note the book has not been opened and is still in original publisher’s box. It is therefore in mint condition. An incredibly beautiful and rare book and collectors piece.
