This exclusive limited edition is the only hardback version published (it was released only as a paperback) of. 275 x 175 mm. Enlarged from the paperback version available in bookstores. Numbered and signed by the author. Limited to 1000 copies. Book-block with exposed binding. An exposed binding celebrates the grand scale and literary gravitas of this epic publication from one of the world’s most gifted novelists. The Books of Jacob was first published in Polish in 2014. In collaboration with Fitzcarraldo Editions, this collector’s edition of the long-awaited English-language edition, translated from the Polish by International Booker Prize-winning translator Jennifer Croft and signed by the author, is limited to only 1000 copies. The Books of Jacob. Features an open binding, exposing the page signatures and stitching of the book-block. This is housed in a handmade case, covered in a specially dyed’Fitzcarraldo blue’ cloth. In the mid-eighteenth century, as new ideas begin to sweep the continent, a young Jewish man of mysterious origins arrives in a village in Poland. Before long, he has changed not only his name but his persona; visited by what seem to be ecstatic experiences, Jacob Frank casts a charismatic spell that attracts an increasingly fervent following. In the decade to come, Frank will traverse the Hapsburg and Ottoman empires, throngs of disciples in his thrall as he reinvents himself again and again, converts to Islam and then Catholicism, is pilloried as a heretic and revered as the Messiah, and wreaks havoc on the conventional order, Jewish and Christian alike, with scandalous rumours of his sect’s secret rituals and the spread of his increasingly iconoclastic beliefs. Follows the story of Frank through the perspectives of his contemporaries, capturing Enlightenment Europe on the cusp of precipitous change, searching for certainty and longing for transcendence. MAKES THE PERFECT GIFT FOR ANY FAN OF FANTASY / SCIENCE FICTION / J. R. R. Mahalo for taking the time to look at our listing. We truly appreciate it. We always do our BEST to give you the most accurate description of these beautiful books. DESCRIPTION: Easton Press full-leather binding, long out of print edition of COMPLETE 2-VOLUME edition of THE BOOK OF LOST TALES by J. R. R. THIS IS A VINTAGE HEIRLOOM EASTON SET WITH LAVISH GILT IMPRESSIONS TO THE BOARDS AND SPINE with BEAUTIFUL FULL-COLOR FRONTISPIECES & VINTAGE ILLUSTRATIONS. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY-PRIZED & MOST BEAUTIFUL EDITIONS OF THESE TOLKIEN MASTERPIECES YOU CAN FIND. The extraordinary history of Middle-earth, edited by Christopher Tolkien. The Book of Lost Tales. Stands at the beginning of the entire conception of Middle-earth and Valinor. Embedded in English legend and English association, they were set in the narrative frame of a great westward voyage over the Ocean by a mariner named Eriol (or Ælfwine) to Tol Eressëa, the Lonely Isle, where Elves dwelt; from them he learned their true history, the Lost Tales of Elfinesse. In the Tales are found the earliest accounts and original ideas of Gods and Elves; Dwarves and Orcs; the Silmarils and the Two Trees of Valinor; Nargothrond and Gondolin; and the geography and cosmology of the invented world. In these tales we have the scholar joyously gamboling in the thickets of his imagination. A commentary and notes greatly enrich the quest. Affords us an almost over-the-shoulder view into the evolving creative process and genius of J. R. R. Tolkien in a new, exciting aspect. The superb, sensitive, and extremely helpful commentary and editing done by Christopher Tolkien make all of this possible. Tolkien devotees will no doubt rejoice. Christopher Tolkien shows himself to be his father’s son, delving into the question of Elvish genealogies. He gives the reader histories of each character’s name as it evolved in the course of Tolkien’s revisions. The New York Times Book Review. This fascinating second part of. Features the tales of Beren and Lúthien, Túrin and the Dragon, and the only full narratives of the Necklace of the Dwarves and the Fall of Gondolin. Essential reading for Middle-earth aficionados, each tale is followed by commentary from editor Christopher Tolkien. Also included is extensive information on the names and vocabulary in the earliest Elvish languages. Will be appreciated by those who have read. And wish to examine how Tolkien improved his story and style from their original form, and how eventually. The Lord of the Rings. Came to stand independently with only a few hints from the early mythology. CONDITION: Books are in EXCEPTIONAL condition for their age with only some faint age spots to the gilt page ends and, some minor fades to the gilt on the boards, and a tiny imperfection to the hinge on the back board of volume one (SEE PICS FOR FURTHER DETAILS). Powell comes the first in a new epic sci-fi trilogy exploring the legacies of war. The sentient warship Trouble Dog was built for violence, yet following a brutal war, she is disgusted by her role in a genocide. Meanwhile, light years away, intelligence officer Ashton Childe is tasked with locating the poet, Ona Sudak, who was aboard the missing spaceship. What Childe doesn’t know is that Sudak is not the person she appears to be. A straightforward rescue turns into something far more dangerous, as Trouble Dog, Konstanz and Childe find themselves at the centre of a conflict that could engulf the entire galaxy. If she is to save her crew, Trouble Dog is going to have to remember how to fight.. From award-winning author Gareth L. Powell, the second book in the critically acclaimed Embers of War space opera series. The former warship Trouble Dog and her crew of misfits is called upon by the House of Reclamation to investigate a distress call from the human starship the Lucy’s Ghost. Recovered war criminal, Ona Sudak, faces a firing squad for her actions in the Archipelago War. But, at the last moment, she is smuggled out of her high security prison. Then her vessel intercepts messages from the House of Reclamation and decides the Trouble Dog has a capacity for violence which cannot be allowed to endure. BSFA Award-winning author Gareth L. Powell delivers an explosive conclusion to his epic Embers of War trilogy. Low on fuel and hunted by the Fleet of Knives, the sentient warship Trouble Dog follows a series of clues that lead her to the Intrusion–an area of space where reality itself becomes unstable. Meanwhile, Cordelia Pa and her step-brother eke out their existence salvaging artefacts from an alien city. But when Cordelia starts hearing the city’s song in her head, strange things start happening around her. What extraordinary affinity does she have for this abandoned technology, and how can it possibly help the Trouble Dog? Award-winning author Gareth L.
