Measures 5″ inches in height by 3″ inches in width and contains 505 pages. The book is complete and followed by a set of index pages. He was fascinated with the idea of death and sin and much of his work pertains to this subject. He spent most of his later life analyzing sin and the effect it has on our choices. The binding is embossed pigskin with leather strap, most likely to be the original binding. The covers feature an embossed figurative center piece showing Jesus on the front and Madonna on the back with a geometric frame. This was the original binding passed down from a providence in Germany from a family collection. This type of binding is extremely rare and personal to the author. A second Latin as well as the first German-language print both appeared in 1617. The beautiful copper title in the form of a portal pedicle shows six biblical scenes (Fall of Man, Noah’s Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, golden lamb, exodus from Egypt, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a tree) and the apotropaic monster in the upper bar with the hell throat in the lower bar. Overall clean and well preserved, the pretty little early baroque cover dates from 1615. Errors and things to note: The binding is in very good condition and the pages are crisp with no rips or tears. The title page features some foxing but overall the pages are in very good condition.
