Raised in a poor family at the age of 14 Patrick embarked on a journey to Scotland to become a navvy – (navigational Engineer) digging the canels, train lines and roads.. This lead to him getting his nickname’The Navvy Poet’. As WW1 broke out, Patrick enlisted and served for’London Irish Rifles’ but was wounded in the battle of loos and was sent back to work for MI7 (military intelligence service). Already know for his poetry, patrick published in 1917’Soldier songs’ printing only 280 first edition, first impressions, only 260 went on the general sale all hand signed by himself. Patrick died in Florida USA in 1963 aged 73, an annual literary event is held in Glenties in his honour.. The Patrick MacGill Festival’. Overall in very good condition. All pages present no loose or teared pages. Hinges good, gutter good. Text block clean and bright. Minor rubbing, bumped corners and shelf wear to binding, otherwise good.
