Produced in Flanders around 1500, it boasts fifteen full-page miniatures with decorated borders, each facing a page with a large decorated initial and a painted border, as well as four three-quarter-page miniatures and twelve quarter borders with signs of the zodiac. The fifteen fully illuminated openings are distinguished by the coordinated architectural motifs of their borders rendered in opulent gold. Published 1987 by Belser Verlag. Limited edition of 1,000 German copies, this copy is no. Complete with 2 volumes in linen cassette. Facsimile volume: 237 sheets. Commentary volume: linen with gold embossing. A luxury manuscript for an enigmatic aristocratic patron, now kept in the Vatican Library: The Office of the Madonna is a true gem of Flemish Renaissance book art. The small-format but extremely valuable manuscript was created in Bruges in the early 16th century by the Master of David, who is particularly known for his work in the famous Breviarium Grimani. The Office texts included are decorated with 19 large, floral and countless smaller decorative initials, while 34 high-quality, full-page miniatures precede the most important sections. The impressive images of biblical scenes and religious figures are usually framed by artistic architectural borders.
