LIMITED EDITION HAND SIGNED. Size: 359 × 267 mm (14 1/8 × 10 1/2 in). Influential photographer Annie Leibovitz presents her remarkable portraits in this re-issue of her acclaimed and bestselling collection. With an essay by Alexandra Fuller and an afterword by Annie Leibovitz. For this collection, Leibovitz has selected the best and most representative portraits from her work between 2005 and 2016. The pictures document contemporary culture with an artist’s eye, wit, and an uncanny ability to personalize even the most recognizable and distinguished figures. Annie Leibovitz was invited to photograph Queen Elizabeth II twice, in 2007 and in 2016. She was the first American photographer to be asked by the royal family to do so, and considered it an honor. As Leibovitz wrote in her 2008 book At Work, It was ok for me to be reverent. The British are conflicted about what they think of the monarch. If a British portraitist is reverent he’s perceived to be doting. I could do something traditional. The 2007 images are reverent, but the sitting that produced them didn’t go entirely to plan. Leibovitz had wanted to shoot at Windsor Castle, with the queen on horseback. Instead she was given 25 minutes at Buckingham Palace. The queen arrived late, not in a terribly good mood, and was wearing a tiara, which wasn’t in Leibovitz’s plan (the tiara was supposed to come later in the shoot). Leibovitz asked if she could remove it so that the image would be simpler. “Less dressy” was how she put it. The queen replied. What do you think this is? Anna-Lou Leibovitz /’li? Vits; born October 2, 1949 is an American portrait photographer best known for her engaging portraits, particularly of celebrities, which often feature subjects in intimate settings and poses. Leibovitz’s Polaroid photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken five hours before Lennon’s murder, is considered one of Rolling Stone magazine’s most famous cover photographs. The Library of Congress declared her a Living Legend, and she is the first woman to have a feature exhibition at Washington’s National Portrait Gallery.
