Berlin Book of Hours of Mary of Burgundy Limited Edition Facsimile
Berlin Book of Hours of Mary of Burgundy – Limited Edition Facsimile. Burgundy (France) – Between 1477 and 1480. Commissioned by Emperor Maximilian I as a gift for his wife: a charmingly decorated Flemish masterpiece in a small format by the great “Master of Mary of Burgundy”. Published 1999 by Coron Verlag, Lachen, in a limited edition of 980 this is copy no. Facsimile reproduction of the entire original document that is as accurate as possible (size, format, color). Binding made of red silk with an elaborately designed, partially gold-plated sterling silver jewelry clasp. All-round gold edges in real gold. 724 pages / 10.3 × 7.0 cm. Commentary volume (182 pages) by Eberhard König, Bodo Brinkman, Fedje Anzelewsky and Frauke Steenbock (Language: German). Both housed in a noble green velvet clamshell box with a leather label for the title. The magnificent manuscript contains prayers and pious texts for private devotion, which are enriched by a total of 27 full-page and 47 smaller miniatures with biblical scenes. There are also 16 pages with a particularly rich and three-dimensional border decoration of blossoms, buds, acanthus and butterflies. There have already been numerous speculations in research about the artist of this outstanding Flemish illumination. It probably comes from the Master of Mary of Burgundy, who was active at the end of the 15th century and is stylistically close to the works of the old Dutch painter Hugo van der Goes.

Let me be clear. This book is in prestine condition. I have tried to include as many pictures as possible but they certainly do not do justice. The book includes the original dust cover and case. The cover and sleeve are in great condition with little wear considering age. The pages do not appear to be read and I have demonstrated to my best ability to show that in the pictures. The pages look brand new and the pages make that crackling sound (like when you open a new book for the first time) when you slowly expand the book open. This may be the best condition 1953 Great Gatsby book available on here. Please message me with any questions!

Roy Lewis (1913 – 1996) was an English journalist and small-press printer. For ten years in the 1950s, he was Washington correspondent for The Economist and then a feature writer on The Times. In 1957, while still working as a journalist, he set up the Keepsake Press, a private printer of limited editions in Ravenscourt Square, Hammersmith, London. The Death of God, subtitled “a Curious Narrative Dream Dreamed By Roy Lewis in the Year MCMXLIII When He Was Living in Dibrugarh in Assam and on Waking Recollected and Written Down By Him” was published by the Keepsake Press in 1959. The book is hand-set in a Gothick typeface (described in the book as’a reverent type’), with initial capitals cut in lino by Roy Lewis’s daughter Elizabeth. The publication, limited to 60 copies, was dedicated to Gordon Symes, who liked the fantasy when he first read it in India. This is a rare and very collectable publication. Approximately 270 x 205mm (10.5 x 8in); the book has just 16 pages. And please follow me, as I regularly add other publications from my collection.

The Book Of Doors’ published by Bantam in London on 15 February 2024 as the trade edition, 1st edition, large modern hardback, (viii) + 408 pages. Flat hand signed by the author at a special title & limitation page, this is one of the 500-run limited edition version of this special Goldsboro release (they also prepared a special 2000-run individually numbered edition as their chosen book for members in February 2024). In fine unread condition, all sides of the text block are sprayed with a yellow on dark blue design with the book title written in white to the fore-edge, this edition has a blue ribbon page marker, dustjacket in a removable protective plastic sleeve. This edition has a different gilt design to the boards, an alternative dustjacket design, a ribbon page marker, a revised sprayed edge finish design and plain endpapers.
