Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General to the Gordon Relief Expedition, Col. Verner is better known for his natural history work in Egypt and Sudan and for accounts printed in Sketches in the Sudan 1885. Here is a previously unpublished diary describing Battles of Abu Klea and El Gubat as well as other experiences. Editor quickly mentions the author is not “politically correct” but is published complete without editing.
