Spine and lower cover with pink lettering. Upper cover with two mounted card prints, one a self-portrait dated 1982 black ink on orange ground, the other black graphic lettering on pale pink ground. Very slight wear on the spine. Otherwise, in excellent condition with only light signs of use. A beautiful and very rare book, out print and very rarely appears for resale. Alessandro Michele’s super colourful, patterned and ornamented designs for Gucci meet the perfect match in Martin Parr’s super saturated photography when Parr shot Gucci’s Cruise 2019 in Cannes. Published by Gucci in association with Idea London the book comes wrapped in a plastic sleeve bearing the title and lyrics of New Order’s World (The Price of Love). Palm trees swaying against a blue sky, women tanning on loungers by La Promenade de la Croisette, and the Gucci tribe amongst it all wearing colourful pieces from Cruise 2019. Martin Parr captures scenes in Cannes for Gucci’s limited-edition photographic book’WORLD (The Price of Love)’ named after the song by British post-punk band New Order. France’s famous seaside town setting mixed perfectly with the characters dressed in the collection to create vivid images for the book, according to the documentary style British photographer, who spoke more about the shoot below. What spirit were you trying to capture from Cannes and the Côte d’Azur in the photos? I was trying to capture the spirit of Cannes and how I believe the general public see or understand it, and combine it with the back drop of the Gucci Cruise 2019 collection and our characters. How does the famous French holiday destination compare to other seaside locations-are there some similar aspects between Cannes and New Brighton? Cannes by nature is always a bit posh, so that is quite a different to location if compared to say New Brighton in the UK that I have shot many times, I always play to be strengths of the location and what is naturally visible or happening at that time. When was the last time you shot there and how has it changed? How did you want to convey the clothes from the collection as part of the image? I try to incorporate the Gucci clothing and our characters into the backdrop of Cannes. It’s the sort of person that you would really see there. Credits: Gucci Cruise 2019 Collection. This is a handmade book published in the famous Publishing House Vigia, Matanzas, Cuba. All the handcrafted books published by Ediciones Vigia are very famous and highly collectable in the world. Each book is a work of art. This 2002 book is numbered 169 of 200 made (written in the keys) and is dedicated to all tye cities in the world. The book measures 9.5×12 inches and 150 pages, many of them with unique manual scrapping works. The Ediciones Vigía started in Matanzas, Cuba around late 1984 with musicians, writers, and composers. La Casa del Escritor provided a space where a group of volunteers started publishing limited editions of books under the name Ediciones Vigía in 1985. Bookmaking at Vigía involves everyone with editors contributing to the process as much as everyone else. They laminate, cover, cut, tie, glue, and write to make their handcrafted books. Vigía prides itself in its books. In the words of Charo Guerra, one of the founders, they are literary gold with a dose of human imperfection.
