A beautiful book with a remarkably rare tooled pigskin binding showing Emperor Charles V on the cover and I believe his successor King Philip II Of Spain on the back. An interesting fact about the book’s editor Marc-Antoine Muret, is that he was thrown into prison on a charge of homosexuality, but shortly released by the help of powerful friends. His works were almost exclusively in Latin: epigrams, odes, satires and letters, which circulated before they became printed. His orations remained models for students through the 18th century. The book was published by established publisher Johann Feyerabend in Frankfurt, Germany in the year 1579. He spent a lifelong successful career in book publishing in and around Frankfurt, Germany from c. 1575- mid 17th century and was a member of the Frankfurt printer/publisher family. This work was one of the first published works in his career. Condition note: The book is in good condition overall with rubbing wear and fading on the covers. The pages are in good condition despite some browning and marks on the opening page as shown in the pictures. This item is in the category “Books & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectible”.
