The Dead’, Jack Burman, Limited edition. For sale is my copy of photographer Jack Burman’s extraordinary’The Dead (Volume 1). This is the first in a series of volume’s presenting Burman’s photographs of the preserved dead as gathered on his trips across the world. The 52 high resolution colour images included in the 128 pages of this book are of human specimens that are mostly. Nor always preserved and collected in medical collections. The book is quarterbound, with a brown cloth spine, beige cloth boards, paper onlay, is laid in sleeve. Book are 7.25in x10.25in (18.4 cms x 36 cms). This is the extremely rare, and long out of print, limited edition from the first pressing and is presented in an archival ashwood box (stained grey) with magnetic closures, and includes a print that is signed and numbered by Jack Burman. Only one hundred of this edition were made and they are very hard to find. I would rate the condition of the book, the wooden box, and the print to all be excellent to mint with no obvious signs of wear, no creasing, marking, etc. The print has never been framed. Please consult the photographs as part of any condition assessment and which, I hope, reflect my condition assessment. Please note that the’gap’ in the pages seen in the side on photos isn’t due to damage – there is a fold out, wide format, image at that point. Also, please also note that the dark and light patterns shown in the photo of the front cover are shadows/light and not ripples or marks to the surface. Extract from the foreword by Martha Hanna, Director of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. Canadian photographer Jack Burman has created a hypnotic collection of still-lifes of long-departed but painstakingly preserved people, specimens and skeletons. Dehumanized but very human; flawed but very beautiful. Exquisitely captured, Burman’s post-mortem documentation addresses not only death, but the lives that came before. The photographs are shocking in their intimacy. With clear respect in their representation, Jack Burman works excruciatingly close to their humanity, and to their death. Thanks for looking, please feel free to to contact me with any questions about this book.

ROOM Book by Antony Gormley Signed Limited Edition of 1,600 (number 0029). SIGNED Limited Edition of 1,600 (This is number 0029) finished with gilt page edges and numbered at the back. Presented to the first guests staying at ROOM by Antony Gormley at the Beaumont hotel, Mayfair. Title: Antony Gormley Room (Hardcover). Publisher: Tate Publishing, London. Beautiful large duotone photographs of the interior and exterior of Antony Gormley s ROOM, a giant crouching figure on the façade of London s new Beaumont Hotel, are published alongside a selection of 25 of the artist s dark drawings (1980s to date) and an indepth essay by Professor Margaret Iversen that considers ROOM in relation to Buddhist meditation, liminal states, caves and Brutalist architecture. Describing ROOM, Gormley states, I take the body as our primary habitat. ROOM contrasts a visible exterior of a body formed from large rectangular masses with an inner experience. The interior of ROOM is only 4 metres square but 10 metres high: close at body level, but lofty and open above. Shutters over the window provide total blackout and very subliminal levels of light allow me to sculpt darkness itself. My ambition for this work is that it should confront the monumental with the most personal, intimate experience. Margaret Iversen is Professor in the School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex. Her books include Alois Riegl: Art History and Theory (Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press, 1993), Beyond Pleasure: Freud, Lacan and Barthes (Pennsylvania: Penn State University Press, 2007), Writing Art History (with Stephen Melville, Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 2010) and Chance (Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press, 2010). She recently co-edited with Diarmuid Costello special issues of journals: Photography after Conceptual Art for Art History and Agency and Automatism for Critical Inquiry. A book called Photography, Trace and Trauma is forthcoming.

My Liverpool Home SIGNED Autobiography LIMITED EDITION Kenny Dalglish SEALED
On offer is a hand signed hardback 1st edition 1st impression limited edition slipcased autobiography of former Liverpool and Scotland Legend Kenny Dalglish. This limited edition is limited to only 1,000 worldwide. The number is unknown as this is brand new and still sealed in the publishers original shrink wrap. Synopsis Kenny Dalglish’s relationship with Liverpool Football Club is one of the great love stories of sport. From the moment he first set foot in the Anfield dressing room nervously asking for autographs while having a trial at the club, Dalglish felt a passion for Liverpool stir within him. After joining from Celtic in 1977, the supremely gifted striker was embraced by Liverpool fans, for the goals and the glory, and most especially for the three European Cups. The Kop’s adoration of King Kenny has never ebbed. Every game, they still sing his name. Liverpool fans have never forgotten how Dalglish held the club together through two tragedies, the first at the Heysel stadium in Brussels in 1985 and then at Hillsborough in 1989. Both disasters are explored at length and in emotional detail by Dalglish in My Liverpool Home. Eventually, for the sake of his health and his family, Dalglish resigned and Liverpool have not won the title since. My Liverpool Home is the story of Dalglish’s epic love affair with Liverpool, tracing the highs and lows, the characters, the laughter, the triumphs and the many tears. For football fans, this revealing book about one of the game’s greatest players is a must. For those fascinated by how a very private man suffered after very publicly supporting his community, Dalglish’s emotional story makes compelling reading.

A special signed & pre-publication dated deluxe cloth-bound low-numbered slipcased 1st edition of this acclaimed novel from multiple award-winning novelist, critic, poet and short-story writer Dame Antonia Susan Duffy A. Byatt, who died on 16 November 2023 aged 87. One of the leading writers of the past 60 years, she won the Booker Prize in 1990 for’ Possession’, and was often mentioned as a possible candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature. This novel was shortlisted for the 2009 Booker Prize and won the prestigious James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 2010. The Children’s Book’, published by Tuskar Rock Press in Dublin in May 2009, 1st edition, large clothbound hardback, [vi] + 617 pages. Flat hand signed by A. In very fine unread condition in a fine slipcase, no dustjacket as issued, a handful of light storage marks to the rear panel of the slipcase. A lovely copy of this low-run special signed deluxe edition, highly collectable given this scarcity, also being pre-publication dated and being a Booker Prize shortlisted title. Quite a heavy volume, weighing 1.2kg before being securely packed. WINNER OF THE 2010 JAMES TAIT BLACK MEMORIAL PRIZE. Olive Wellwood is a famous writer, interviewed with her children gathered at her knee. For each of them she writes a separate private book, bound in different colours and placed on a shelf. In their rambling house near Romney Marsh they play in a story-book world – but their lives, and those of their rich cousins, children of a city stockbroker, and their friends, the son and daughter of a curator at the new Victoria and Albert Museum, are already inscribed with mystery. Each family carries their own secrets. Into their world comes a young stranger, a working-class boy from the Potteries, drawn by the beauty of the Museum’s treasures. And in midsummer, a German puppeteer arrives, bringing dark dramas. The world seems full of promise but the calm is already rocked by political differences, by Fabian arguments about class and free love, by the idealism of anarchists from Russia and Germany. The sons rebel against their parents’ plans; the girls dream of independent futures, becoming doctors or fighting for the vote. This vivid, rich and moving saga is played out against the great, rippling tides of the day, taking us from the Kent marshes to Paris and Munich and the trenches of the Somme. Born at the end of the Victorian era, growing up in the golden summers of Edwardian times, a whole generation grew up unaware of the darkness ahead. In their innocence, they were betrayed unintentionally by the adults who loved them. In a profound sense, this novel is indeed the children’s book.
