Privately Published in London at the Curwen Press (for the British Legion), 1929. Size Royal 4to, pp. Xiv, 242 + inserted plates & colophon. Limited to 600 Copies, with this copy being numbered 177. Signed on the limitations page by H. Collotype plates to the rear of the book, one being the original study for the famous WWI painting’Gassed’. Published to raise funds for the British Legion under the patronage of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII. Bound in the original orange cloth, some marking, fading to the spine and spine edges, corners and spine ends bumped. Top edge gilt, fore and lower edges untrimmed. Pages lightly toned, the odd spot here and there, but generally in good order. Includes pieces by Rudyard Kipling, Aldous Huxley, P G Wodehouse, G K Chesterton, Hilaire Belloc, Edmund Blunden, Edgar Wallace, Sapper, Walter de la Mare and others. Illustrated by Eric Gill, Edward Bawden and more. Callotype plates by Charles Whittingham & Griggs, London. Line blocks made by Emery Walker Limited, London. Text set in Lutetia Monotype.
