Numbered and signed by the author. Limited to 1000 copies. Book-block with exposed binding. An exposed binding celebrates the grand scale and literary gravitas of this epic publication from one of the world’s most gifted novelists. The Books of Jacob was first published in Polish in 2014. The Books of Jacob. Features an open binding, exposing the page signatures and stitching of the book-block. This is housed in a handmade case, covered in a specially dyed’Fitzcarraldo blue’ cloth. In the mid-eighteenth century, as new ideas begin to sweep the continent, a young Jewish man of mysterious origins arrives in a village in Poland. Before long, he has changed not only his name but his persona; visited by what seem to be ecstatic experiences, Jacob Frank casts a charismatic spell that attracts an increasingly fervent following. In the decade to come, Frank will traverse the Hapsburg and Ottoman empires, throngs of disciples in his thrall as he reinvents himself again and again, converts to Islam and then Catholicism, is pilloried as a heretic and revered as the Messiah, and wreaks havoc on the conventional order, Jewish and Christian alike, with scandalous rumours of his sect’s secret rituals and the spread of his increasingly iconoclastic beliefs. Follows the story of Frank through the perspectives of his contemporaries, capturing Enlightenment Europe on the cusp of precipitous change, searching for certainty and longing for transcendence. Widely regarded as two of the greatest works of historical fiction, Hilary Mantel’s peerless, Booker Prize-winning novels Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies have dazzlingly charted the rising arc of mercurial Tudor plotter, politician and power broker Thomas Cromwell. Now, in The Mirror & the Light she brings her trilogy to its final, thrilling conclusion. New and Unread Hardback. First Edition, First Printing. Signed by the Author. I will Also Include The Booklet (53 pages) Published by 4th Estate: The World of Wolf Hall a Reading Guide to Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies. Includes Mirror and the Light Tote Bag. Includes Matching Bookmark (photo 10 shows the front and back of the bookmark). Please feel free to get in contact if you have any queries. Published: 5th March 2020. Number of Pages: 912. The higher you climb, the further you fall. From a bloodied and tormented child on the rough-and-ready streets of Putney, to the service of the country’s most rich and powerful, Thomas Cromwell has ascended to the highest echelons of Henry VIII’s tumultuous court. He has survived the fall of Cardinal Wolsey and inveigled his way into the King’s confidence, overseen the overthrow of two queens and taken revenge on those who betrayed his former master. Now all of England lies at his feet, ripe for innovation and religious reform. But as fortune’s wheel turns, Cromwell’s enemies are gathering in the shadows and the question remains: how long can anyone survive under Henry’s cruel and capricious gaze? Eagerly awaited and eight years in the making, The Mirror & the Light completes Cromwell’s journey from self-made man to one of the most feared and influential figures of his time. Told with immediacy and pace, Mantel’s novels immerse readers in her Tudor world; rich with the sights, smells and textures of 16th century England. No other novelist is so successful in conjuring the intrigue, in-fighting and complex machinations of the machine of courtly politics. In her hands these novels form an unrivalled picture of royalty and common experience, duty and desire, conflict and loyalty. But the crowning glory of the trilogy is Cromwell himself, portrayed with passion, pathos and energy as politician, fixer, husband, father, subject and as a man who both defied and defined his age. Playful Productions / Royal Shakespeare Company adapted Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies for the stage to colossal critical acclaim. Wolf Hall has been translated into 36 languages, Bring Up The Bodies 31 languages and sales for both books have reached over 5 million worldwide. Legal Stuff for International Buyers.
