Andrew Langs scarce & sort after large paper limited edition, No’34 of 113 copies. Of The Blue Fairy Book, 1st edition. The first of The Coloured fairy series of books. Original paper boards with the vellum spine, the spine is darkened with a central crease top to bottom and a little loss at the bottom, the front board is cracked along the hinge but holding strong, no tears to inner gutter, ex Libris bookplate to inner board, tissue paper to frontis & internally the book is extremely tight, probably unread, & in excellent condition. Please have a good nosey at the photos, many thanks. A bargain at the price asked.

Andrew Langs limited edition large paper editions of the first four fairy books, the only ones in this format, the extremely scarce Blue fairy book Ltd to 113 copies, the Red Ltd to 113 copies, the Yellow Ltd to 140 & the Green Ltd to 150. The Blue outer front hinge is cracked but holds strong, spine a little grubby, has a crease down the centre & a couple of mm loss at the bottom, has bookplate of former owner & apart from a few light finger marks is extremely nice internally, the Red is very nice both inside and outside, the Green also very nice both inside and out, also, unbelievably, has all its pages still uncut!! The Yellow has a slightly grubby spine, a former owner bookplate, internally very nice, all in all they are a very nice set at an excellent price!! Please look at the photos closely, really it’s only the covers, the interiors are fine bar a few light finger marks, all things considered they’re an utter bargain!

Signed Limited Edition 1916 Arthur Rackham The Allies Fairy Book. In good clean condition inside with a few spots of foxing and smudge marks only. All tipped in plates have been checked and are in good shape. All have titled tissue papers in front. Boards and binding firm and secure. Minor wear at spine ends and board corners. Tear at front end. Rough cut pages with some edges ragged. Please check photos carefully as these form the main part of description. I will always try to highlight any major faults or issues. The Big Book of Fairy Tales. Edited by Walter Jerrold and Illustrated by Charles Robinson. Presentation copy, dedicated to Joyce. (Has a full page showing the dedication and is stamped as presentation copy below the publishing date). Contains 34 full page illustrations, 12 in colour and remainder in red & black and black & white. Very big book with bright gilt lettering and gilt colour edge to pages. The book is in a very good clean condition for its age with no pen marks, rips or tears. The spine is firm. The hardcover has a few small marks and bumping on the corners. Inside some of the pages have light age spots/smudges.

From the limited edition of 200 copies , bound in cream buckram and signed by Whistler on the half-title. Cream buckram-bound hardback, with elaborate rococo-style gilt ornament to boards and spine, with titles within decorative vignettes to front board and spine, matching ornamental endpapers, all edges gilt. Decorative title-page, 10 full-page plates, 16 text illustrations, 33 head-pieces and 15 tail-pieces. 210 x 150mm (8¼ x 6). A beautiful copy of Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales and Legends, i llustrated and signed by Rex Whistler, bound in a limited-edition gilt binding. The romantic, otherworldliness of Hans Christian Andersen’s tales are perfectly suited to Whistler’s artistic sensibility, and his illustrations have elements of both humour and the macabre. Several of the illustrations were created using the scraperboard method. The book proved popular when first published and has subsequently been reprinted several times. There is a story that one of Whistler’s friends walked up the aisle carrying a copy of the Fairy Tales, the ornamented cover proving to be a perfect substitute for a prayer book.
