Full calf arts and crafts binding by EWY with their initials to the rear paste down leather turn in, plain with gilt titles to the spine, gilt decoration to the boards, top page edges gilt, others tanned. Blank pages bound in every other page. Provenance: no signatures or bookplates. Approximately 6 ¾ inches tall (17cm). Spine – good condition – gently faded, gilt titles, plain. Joints – good condition – gently rubbed. Corners – good condition – gently worn. Boards – good condition – gilt design tying in with the bands, gently marked and worn. Page edges – good condition – top edge darkened, others tanned. See above and photos. Hinges – good condition – sound. Paste downs – good condition – leather turn-ins with green and red patterned paper, initials to the rear. End papers – good condition – green and red patterned paper, offsetting from the leather. Printed in a limited edition of just 3000, “Diary of a Collection” follows the creative process behind the Fall 2005 Women’s Collection–from inspiration to runway–as told in the words of Ralph Lauren himself. Included are 94 tipped-in color images of photographs and sketches that give a personalized insider’s view into the making of a Collection. The book is divided into five sections: Inspiration, The Work, The Looks, The Runway and The Collection, and includes edited text from an interview with Mr. Lauren the afternoon of the show. Each oversized volume is beautifully bound in cloth, individually numbered. Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General to the Gordon Relief Expedition, Col. Verner is better known for his natural history work in Egypt and Sudan and for accounts printed in Sketches in the Sudan 1885. Here is a previously unpublished diary describing Battles of Abu Klea and El Gubat as well as other experiences. Editor quickly mentions the author is not “politically correct” but is published complete without editing.
