Hardback, approx 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Quarter bound in green cloth and marbled paper to boards. Gilt lettering to spines. In very good conditions. Spines a little faded and rubbed at ends, some rubbing to edges of boards, corners bumped on vol. Some light foxing to endpapers, halftitle darkened. Signed on endpapers “Peter Burra”, and also Mary H. Some occasional minor light foxing spots, some dark spots to outer page edges, one minor stain to outer edge of pages in vol. Else very good clean and tight copies. 2 vols: 203 & 217pp. Illustrated with many B&W and colour plates and frontispieces, and B&W woodcut designs within text. Artists include Wyndham Goodden, Albert Rutherston, Max Beerbohm, etc. Errata slip in vol. Original grey paper covers bound in at rears. From February 1930 to June 1931, Peter Burra edited the literary magazine Farrago, published by Simon Nowell Smith. They were 6 numbers in total and the cover designs and plates were by Edward Burra, Albert Rutherston, Oliver Holt and Laurence Whistler. In issue 5 there is also an headpiece by Rex Whistler. The magazine published early poems by Evelyn Waugh and Cecil Day-Lewis, plus contributions by A. Symons, John Sparrow, Max Beerbohm and Lord David Cecil.
