Text block edges have deckle fore and foot edges, gilt along head. 9 x 11.5 inches. Dent embarked on a new illustrated edition (1893). Beardsley’s illustrative talents and aesthetic sensibility lent themselves to the magic of Merlin and the lore of King Arthur’s knights, making for an edition that was at the same time old and new. The Third Edition, issued by E. Dutton in 1927, was the last to collect in one place Beardsley’s illustrations on the theme. This is a very good copy of this seminal presentation of Le Morte d’Arthur, with beveled boards richly decorated in gilt complementing the bold black of the in-text illustrations. Third Edition, 1600 copies printed. More photos available upon request. #panoplybooks #rarebooks #bookboutique #collectiblebooks #antiquebooks #vintagebooks #bookstore.

Our Stock # 24278. This is a vintage copy of Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. An English, cloth bound limited edition novel, dating to the early 20th century, published 1926. Often set in the semi fictional region of Wessex, Thomas Hardy (1840 – 1928) was a novelist and poet. Taking its name from the medieval region of Southern England, Hardy’s Wessex as it came to be known, expanded within his literary landscape to cover Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire. Initially, it had been used for the local surroundings of his native Dorchester, for which he created the fictional name Casterbridge. This use of fictitious names continued with the expansion of the region. One of his more famous works, Tess of the D’Urbervilles (1891) is set in North Dorset during the 1870s. Thematically, it is a novel of social class, justice, fate and morality, within the scope of women and gender equality. Set across 508 pages, this limited edition copy published in 1926. The specific print run limited to 1,500 copies and bound in waxed cloth over board. Presented in good, clean original order with minor sun fading to spine. Illustrated throughout with engravings by Vivien Gribble, including charming chapter headings. Fascinating fold out map to rear with locations throughout Hardy’s Wessex. Of Chalk & Flint A Way of Norfolk Magic Val Thomas
Well my friend here i go again. Todays book for your perusal is. Of Chalk & Flint (A Way of Norfolk Magic) by Val Thomas. 1st edition & limited edition no 18/150. Some of you may have heard me talk of my friend Vi, she came originally from Lincolnshire prior to the 2nd world war moved south when she met & married. Despite the objections of so called friends & family she continued a tradition of witchcraft here that originated in Lincolnshire, she was what is known as a’hedge witch’, meeting her may have been the best thing i have ever done to be honest, she, like a mate of mine Mark, doesnt give you crap but tells it as it is, their magic is of the earth & the moon, sun & the stars whereas mine is of blood & bone but the end results are not dissimilar. As with other books on localised witchcraft this book reveals the tricks of the trade used in Norfolk, reading through the book you may feel that what you read is similar to that used in Suffolk, Nottinghamshire or even Lincolnshire, what you should remember is that in those far off days everything learnt was’word of mouth’ rarely written down, most people were illiterate, & those who had literacy skills may have misunderstood facts so though the construction of a spell seems similar it may be used for a different purpose. All witchcraft is usually pure & directed at those in need of aid but sometimes the coven needs to protect itself so the focus is purely selfish. You will need to google this book as copywrite laws are getting harsher these days so to even give you a smidgen from inside the covers is liable to a letter from a solicitor? Picture is of my spirit guide or i should say, the remains of my spirit guide, Nancy who now my wife has passed needs a new home, 2 women looking after you seems fine until one decides they are the dominant one & Nancy is that person, i just need to keep the peace & get my head together. Post days are Mondays & Thursdays.
