Signed first edition of Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 historical fiction novel, her eighth published novel, which narrates a fictional account of the young death of Hamnet, the only son of William Shakespeare and Agnes (aka Anne) Hathaway, and their ensuing grief. This copy is the Waterstones signed edition. An additional page has been added to the book, which does not appear in the Tinder Press trade 1. On which the author’s signature appears. A critical success, as well as a commercial success on publication, Hamnet won the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award; was chosen as Waterstones’ Book of the Year; and was named Novel of the Year at the Dalkey Literary Awards. The novel was adapted into a 2025 film, co-written by the book’s author, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William. Like the book before it, the film proved both an enormous critical and commercial success. It has received numerous awards and accolades, including eight nominations at the 98.
