Illustrated, Limited Edition, Original Binding, Publishers’ Original Binding, Signed. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed. This book weighs 0.75 KG when packed. A limited de luxe edition, being number 19 out of 500 copies. Signed by both the author and the artist to the half title. With a monochrome engraved etching by the renowned artist Michael Ayrton, created for this limited edition. A limited edition of Muriel Spark’s sinister and comedic gothic novel set in a mansion, where a Baron, Baroness and their secretary are hidden behind the locked doors of the library. In the publisher’s original quarter cloth. Externally excellent with only a very minor closed tear to the paper to the front board, and sunning to the front. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Fine – Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Meaning not very good. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under’condition. Good Only – Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete. A hand-bound limited edition of only 580 copies. Only 154 copies of this Deluxe state. Specially illustrated with 16 colour images, including two double-page foldouts. All copies are signed by the author Michael Morpurgo and the illustrator Christian Birmingham. Letterpress printed in Caslon 12 point font on Swedish Munken 150gsm paper with a tipped-in frontispiece image. Printed by Nomad Letterpress in the UK. Hand-bound in fine Nigerian goatskin leather with intricate foiling, by Ludlow Bookbinders in Shropshire, England. The pages are gilded on all three sides, with head and tail bands. Printed marbled endpapers designed by Paperwilds, and silk ribbon marker. Housed in a handmade, plush-lined leather chemise styled as a WW1 dispatch bag. The paper size is 240 x 170mm.
