Created in Paris around 1488, the manuscript presents itself as a work of art of the highest quality and impressive splendor. The typical components of such a private devotional book are adorned here with precious book illumination. The important client himself is immortalized in two wonderful miniatures – outstanding evidence of the creative pictorial inventions. A real gem of 15th century French illumination and an exciting testimony to Baden’s regional history! The miniature pages are extremely colorful and well thought-out : a large main miniature is each surrounded by a wide decorative frame, which is filled with ornament, flowers and fruits, animals and banners and other decorative elements. Some pages of text are also surrounded by such wonderful frames and also include a small, wonderfully composed illustration in the text. For example with the lives of saints, where the saints are presented in small, square miniatures.
